Tablets to delay your period for up to 17 days, for a holiday, a wedding, an exam or an event.
Sometimes a period is due at exactly the wrong moment: a beach holiday, a wedding, exams, a big sporting event. Benson Pharmacy can supply a short course of tablets privately that delays your period until a more convenient time, after a quick confidential consultation with the pharmacist.
How it works
The treatment is norethisterone, a hormone tablet taken three times a day. You start it three days before your period is due and keep taking it for as long as you want to delay your period, up to 17 days. Your period usually arrives two or three days after you stop.
Who it is for
- Women and girls aged 16 and over with regular periods
- Anyone not using a combined contraceptive pill. If you are on the combined pill, you can usually delay your period by running packs together instead, and we will show you how
It is not suitable for everyone. The pharmacist will ask about your health, any medicines you take and any history of blood clots, liver problems or breast cancer before supplying it.
What happens at your appointment
A short, private conversation in the consultation room. If the treatment is suitable, we supply it there and then with clear instructions on when to start and stop.
Good to know
- Norethisterone is not a contraceptive. Use your usual method as well
- Some people notice bloating, breast tenderness, spotting or a change in mood while taking it. These settle when you stop
- Book at least a week before your period is due, so you have the tablets in time to start them three days before
- Ask us for the price, which includes the consultation and the tablets
