Friendly, expert support to stop smoking for good, with treatment to beat the cravings.

Book Smoking cessation

Stopping smoking is the single best thing you can do for your health, and you are around three times more likely to succeed with support and treatment than with willpower alone. Benson Pharmacy offers a stop smoking service run by our trained team: regular one-to-one support, the right treatment for you, and someone in your corner for the first few months.

How it works

  1. Book a first appointment. We talk about how and when you smoke, what has happened when you have tried before, and set a quit date together
  2. We recommend treatment to manage cravings and withdrawal, and supply it
  3. We see you regularly, usually weekly to begin with, for the first 12 weeks, to check how you are doing, adjust your treatment and keep you going

Treatment options

  • Nicotine replacement therapy: patches for a steady background dose, combined with a faster-acting product such as gum, lozenges, a mouth spray or an inhalator for sudden cravings
  • Varenicline, a tablet that reduces cravings and takes the pleasure out of smoking, now available again on the NHS
  • Cytisine, a plant-based tablet that works in a similar way over a shorter course

Vaping is not risk-free, but it is far less harmful than smoking, and if you already vape we can help you plan to stop that too in time.

Why it is worth it

  • Within 48 hours your sense of taste and smell improve
  • Within a year your risk of a heart attack has halved
  • A 20-a-day smoker saves around £4,500 a year
  • Stopping before 40 avoids almost all of the extra risk of dying from smoking-related disease

Good to know

  • Most people need a few attempts. A slip is not a failure, so come back and we will adjust the plan
  • If you have recently left hospital, or are pregnant, tell us, as we can link you with the specialist support you are entitled to
  • Ask us about costs and whether you qualify for free NHS-funded support
