Protection against a viral infection carried by ticks in forested parts of Europe and Asia.
Book a travel vaccination appointment
Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral infection passed on by tick bites in wooded and grassy areas of many European and some Asian countries. Most people have a mild illness, but it can affect the brain and nervous system. The risk is seasonal, from spring to autumn, and highest for people spending time outdoors.
The vaccine
Two injections give protection for the season; a third completes the course for about three years. A rapid schedule of two doses two weeks apart is available.
When to have it
Start at least four weeks before you travel.
Avoiding bites
Long trousers tucked into socks, insect repellent and checking for ticks each day all help, vaccinated or not.
Your pharmacist will confirm at your consultation whether this vaccine is recommended for your trip.
