Book a travel vaccination appointment
Typhoid is a bacterial infection spread through food and water contaminated by an infected person. It causes a high fever and can be serious without treatment. The risk is highest in South Asia, and present across much of Africa, South America and the Middle East.
The vaccine
A single injection gives protection for about three years. A combined typhoid and hepatitis A injection is also available if you need both.
When to have it
At least two weeks before you travel.
Side effects
A sore arm, and occasionally a mild temperature or headache, for a day or so.
Vaccination does not replace care with food and water: choose freshly cooked food and bottled or treated water.
Your pharmacist will confirm at your consultation whether this vaccine is recommended for your trip.
